The window for Helleborus sp., or lenton rose, blooms have almost past and as I look through my photos from the beginning of April, I am already to reminiscing. The elegent perennials have so much to offer to the garden. They are one of the first perennials to bloom in early spring, they have excellent, strong, textural green foliage throughtout summer and fall, plus they will establish in dry shade where it may be tough to get other plants to grow. You can't go wrong with Helleborus. Often, the trick to capturing their beautiful blooms is to get down on your knees. The blooms hang from the plant, forcing you to get down on the ground and look up toward the sky. Helleborus force us to slow down and notice the details in the garden, which is a health benefit to our fast paced lives. Enjoy these photos I took on April 1.
